DOCUMENTS: CONTADOR INVOLVED IN DOPING
German authorities said yesterday they have received documents from doping expert Werner Franke which he claims show Tour de France winner Alberto Contador was involved in doping. Franke said he has documents from last year’s Operation Puerto doping investigation in Spain which show that Contador, a Spaniard who won the doping-marred Tour, had taken HMG-Lepori as a testosterone booster and an asthma product called TGN. Contador missed the 2006 Tour when his former team was disqualified because he and four other riders were allegedly linked to the investigation.

WITH RUSSELL UNSIGNED, CULPEPPER SIGNS WITH RAIDERS
Free agent quarterback Daunte Culpepper signed a one-year contract with Oakland yesterday, giving the Raiders a backup plan for top draft pick JaMarcus Russell. Culpepper, 30, worked out in the afternoon before a gathering of Raiders scouts and coaches. The workout was private and Culpepper left without speaking to reporters, but Oakland coach Lane Kiffin announced the signing after the Raiders completed practice.
“We had to see him run around, scramble and do different things because his arm didn’t go away,” Kiffin said.
