From jumpsuits to spacesuits, Diesel’s spring 2008 collection appeared to be inspired by vastly disparate sources. The show’s theme —the Laundromat — at least gave some continuity to the bright white pieces that ranged from belted shirt dresses to swimwear to high-collared jumpsuits. A little bit Elvis Presley, a little bit NASA — a lot 1980s.
Looks channeled the decade’s early years with punk rock cut-out tops and highlighter-color ensembles, but the later years were not forgotten. Baggy, MC Hammer-style pants, faded jeans, and distracting oversize accessories were all there in creative director Wilbert Das’s ensembles. Diesel’s signature denim dotted the collection. For women, there were roomy pants and skirts that cinched at the waist. The men’s jeans were more form-fitting through the leg, then bunched around the ankles. In one men’s look, a cornflower-blue jean jacket was paired with matching shorts, cuffed at mid-thigh.
