This week’s weather is shaping up to be high on humidity, which can make your smooth tendrils turn to a mop of frizz. To offer some relief, stylists from the John Frieda Collection are setting up shop this weekend in Long Beach. From the Frizz-Ease Cabana, the team of experts will offer free consultations, styling advice, and samples of their latest product, Frizz-Ease UV Thermal Protection.

The serum ($9.99 in drugstores) protects hair from all forms of direct heat, be that ultraviolet exposure or heat tools, such as curling irons and dryers. Heat can damage through breakage, which then leads to frizz. The sun’s rays can also fade your hair’s color. And whereas some anti-frizz serums must be used on wet hair, the Frizz-Ease UV Thermal Protection can be used on wet or dry hair, so reapplying after hours of sitting in the sun will still offer some protection.

“A lot of people don’t realize they need to take care of their hair just as much as they take care of their skin,” a creative consultant for John Frieda, Harry Josh, said.

Frizz usually afflicts those with curly, coarse, and textured hair, but the summer weather can surprise those with even the straightest locks. Mr. Josh recommends putting a little product in your hair and letting it air dry, thereby avoiding the hairdryer. “Embrace your curls. It’s the one time of year you have to do it,” he said.

The team at the Frizz-Ease Cabana — located on the beach near the volleyball courts, accessible by Riverside Boulevard — will also be handing out water, towels, and flip-flops. Travelers can buy the Long Island Rail Road’s Long Beach Package at Penn Station for $18, which includes a beach pass plus fare to and from the Long Beach station. The beach is five to six blocks from the train station.

June 30 to July 2, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Riverside Boulevard and Long Beach, Long Island.
