Glamour at the Golden Globes

Stars of film and television turned up to the Beverly Hilton in Hollywood, Calif., last night for the 64th Golden Globe Awards, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The first winner was Jennifer Hudson, who took home the statuette for best supporting actress in a musical or comedy for her breakthrough role as Effie White in “Dreamgirls.” Later, Eddie Murphy won the best supporting actor award for his role in the same film.
Meryl Streep won the sixth Golden Globe of her career, for best actress in a musical or comedy, for her portrayal of a ruthless magazine editor in “The Devil Wears Prada.”
And two animated films took early awards, as “Happy Feet” won for Best Original Song (Prince’s “The Song of the Heart”) and Pixar Studio’s “Cars” won for Best Animated Film.
In television, Hugh Laurie and Kyra Sedgwick were honored as the best actor and best actress in dramatic television series for Fox’s “House” and TNT’s “The Closer,” respectively. Alec Baldwin won for best actor in a comedy for NBC’s “30 Rock.” The award for best actor in a mini-series or television movie went to Bill Nighy of BBC’s “Gideon’s Daughter.” Dame Helen Mirren, who was also nominated for her feature film role as Queen Elizabeth II, won an award for her recurring role as Detective Jane Tennison in “Prime Suspect: The Final Act.”
