When curling up for a little relaxation, nothing beats a blanket of luxurious fabric. Whether your preference is for cashmere, faux fur, or silk, blankets from Blanc de Chine (673 Fifth Ave. at 53rd Street, 212-308-8688) offer the comfort needed to make it until the days when blankets are optional.
Named after white Chinese porcelain from the 18th century, Blanc de Chine is a Hong Kong-based fashion retailer that also offers home furnishings. Its sumptuous line includes blankets of leather, silk, cashmere, and faux fur.
For those constantly on the move, the silk travel blankets ($375) can make any long flight enjoyable. Made in a variety of colors, these lightly stuffed silk blankets roll up neatly into their accompanying pouches.
A wintry night at home, though, needs a warmer fabric, such as faux fur or cashmere. Blanc de Chine’s throw blankets in silk are available with a lining of cashmere ($900) or faux fur ($500).
For the most ardent of silk lovers, Blanc de Chine offers an array of duvet covers. The silk shells are pre-filled and are closer to blankets than traditional duvets. Prices begin at $1,700 for one made of plain silk and climb to $3,000 for one with glow-in-the-dark embroidery.
All of the bedding selections are factory made, then hand finished to ensure clean seams and prevent stray strings. Additionally, each blanket is lined with rows of invisible, hand-sewn stitches to hold the filling in place.
