QUEBEC
Mont Tremblant, in the Laurentian mountains outside Montreal, is like your average New England ski resort, only nicer. One of the best hotels is the Fairmont Tremblant, which boasts a high-speed chair lift on its doorstep. The property is offering a Ski & Stay Package from November 17 to April 17 that includes accommodations (two-night minimum) and one ski lift ticket a person each day. ST . MORITZ
When it comes to winter skiing in comfort and style, there’s still no place like St. Moritz. The showpiece Alpine village of Switzerland’s Engadine region is home to the luxury Badrutt’s Palace Hotel. Starting December 17, chef Nobu Matsuhisa will be in residence at the hotel’s restaurant, Le Relais, for the winter season. For short stays, consider the Ski Dream Premiere package, which includes two nights for two in a Superior Room (with free upgrade depending on availability), daily buffet breakfast, complimentary minibar (hooray!), two set dinners, a two-day ski pass valid for the entire region, shuttle service to the local ski lift, and free entrance to Badrutt’s own King’s Club, where the jet set converges for apres-ski good times. The price begins at 1,300 Swiss francs (about $1,022) and is valid December 6-17. Other packages are available, and winter rates start at 450 Swiss francs (about $350) for a double room.

NORWAY
Don’t forget, there are Scandinavian Alps, too – especially in Norway, where skiing first became a sport. There’s a saying that goes “Norwegians are born with skis on their feet,” and indeed, family ski facilities in the Nordic country are second to none. One of the most popular ski resorts is Geilo, halfway between Oslo and Bergen. Hallingskarvet mountain is its backbone, and Hardangervidda, northern Europe’s largest mountain plateau, is nearby. Here you can walk from the historic village to the lifts in your ski boots. Hemsedal, in the same region, boasts five lifts plus fantastic snowboarding terrain and off-piste skiing. There are also six pistes and a special apres-ski area just for children. At Hemsedal, accommodations range from ski-in, ski-out log cabins on the mountain to hotels with heated pools in the valley. Voss is in the fjord country beyond Bergen and has 25 miles of runs and 10 lifts. Gaustablikk, in southern Norway, is home to Gaustablikk Mountain Hotel, a self-contained resort. If you’re only going to Oslo but need a quick powder fix, the newly refurbished Tryvann Ski Centre, a 20-minute tram ride from the city center, is set to open December 1.
