When the international art-collecters come to New York for the auction weeks, they keep busy at all hours. By day they hold paddles. By night they hold cocktails at parties all around town. Here are a few of the best upcoming gatherings.
FEEL GOOD BIDS A contemporary art–loving crowd will gather tonight at 7 p.m. in the Splashlight Studios space (529-535 W.35th St., between Tenth and Eleventh avenues) for a silent auction benefiting RxArt, an organization that places fine art in hospitals. On display during the event will be 10-inch-by-10-inch canvases made by artists including John Baldessari, Tom Otterness, William Sofield, Donald Sultan, and Terry. Tickets are $150 at www.rxart.net.
KNOCK ON WOOD Perry Rubenstein Gallery (534 W. 24th St., between Eleventh and Twelfth avenues) will host an opening reception for the wood sculptor and artist Mira Nakashima, tonight at 6 p.m. More details are available at www.perryrubenstein.com.
BLACK-TIE GALA The couture will glitter tomorrow when the sold-out Guggenheim International Gala takes place under a clear tent in Central Park. This is the must-attend museum event for the Europeans, most of whom know the Guggenheim through outposts in Berlin, Venice, and Bilbao. Simon de Pury will wield the gavel at an auction during dinner that will be catered by Nobu.
LOWER MANHATTAN The Dia Art Foundation is getting out of Chelsea for the night by holding its annual fundraising gala on the 52nd floor of 7 World Trade Center. Guests will likely linger in the lobby where Jenny Holzer has an installation; upstairs will be a sonic artwork and a site-specific light sculpture. By invitation only.
DECADENT UPTOWN A lazy Sunday? Not for this crowd. Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn hosts an opening Sunday afternoon for the babe of last year’s Whitney Biennial, Marilyn Minter, at her gallery Salon 94. Keep your ears out for the icy plans Ms. Rohatyn has for her container at Art Basel Miami Beach. By invitation only.
