IN THE DOG HOUSE
The last black-tie gala to be held at the Plaza before its conversion is the “Bergh Ball” benefit for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Designers Oscar de la Renta, Betsey Johnson, Isaac Mizrahi, Zac Posen, and Lily Pulitzer have decorated doghouses that will be auctioned off. Tonight, 7 p.m. cocktails, 8 p.m. dinner and dancing, the Plaza, Fifth Avenue at Central Park South, 212-876-7700 ext. 4654, $1,000 general, $175 for those under 35.
SWEET STUFF
“La Dolce Vita” is the theme of this year’s TriBeCa Ball. Fittingly, Dolce & Gabbana designed the decor at the gala downtown dinner. Eileen Guggenheim and Russell Wilkinson are the evening’s honorary chairmen. The party is a benefit for the New York Academy of Art. V DAY
The head coach of the Duke University basketball team, Mike Krzyzewski, gives the keynote speech at a benefit that celebrates the memory of coach and commentator Jim Valvano. Mayor Giuliani, a cancer survivor, is the guest of honor. Proceeds go to the V Foundation for Cancer Research, founded in Valvano’s memory and led by his brother, Nick. Tomorrow, 6 p.m. cocktails, 7 p.m. dinner, Pier 60, Chelsea Piers, 23rd Street and the Hudson River, 919-380-9505, $1,000.
