WARM UP WITH RUM Ian William conducts a rum tasting and discusses his book “Rum: A Social and Sociable History of 1776” (7 p.m.). The event is part of the South Street Seaport’s Free Fridays program, which features extended evening hours. Visitors can also attend a family candle-making workshop with complimentary hot cider (6-9 p.m.) and enjoy carols performed outside by the South Street Seaport Singing Christmas Tree (6 and 7 p.m.). Friday, 5-9 p.m., South Street Seaport Museum, 12 Fulton St. at Front Street, 212-748-8735, free after 6 p.m.


OATMEAL TREATS Children can bake their own oatmeal lace cookies at the next installment of the Kidz Cook workshop. Saturday, 1, 2, 3, and 3:45 p.m., Staten Island Children’s Museum, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, 718-273-2060, $5 general, free for children under 1.
