BUCKNER IN BROOKLYN
Sad-voiced singer-songwriter Richard Buckner plays an acoustic show in Brooklyn, along with Paul Brill, Tara Angell, and Mickey Ehrlich. Tonight, 8 p.m. doors open, Southpaw, 125 Fifth Ave., between St. Johns and Sterling places, Park Slope, Brooklyn, 718-230-0236, $8 in advance, $10 at the door.
STRAUSS’S HOUSE
Leonard Slatkin conducts the New York Philharmonic in a program that includes Richard Strauss’s “Symphonia Domestica,” which includes references to a baby’s bath time, a lullaby, the parents’ conjugal romance, and a family squabble.The program also features the philharmonic’s first performance of Jefferson Friedman’s “The Throne of the Third Heaven … “The composition, which was inspired by a sculpture by James Hampton,is part of a trilogy inspired by outsider artists. Ernst Bloch’s “Schelomo,” based on the book of Ecclesiastes, is also included. Lynn Harrell is the solo cellist. An open rehearsal provides an affordable first performance (tomorrow, 9:45 a.m., $15).
