WHIPLASH The 21st Century Schizoid Music series consists of two-part concerts that feature vastly different kinds of music performed by the same musicians. The American Contemporary Music Ensemble performs at the next installment. Part One will be the music of Charles Ives and Charles Wuorinen,and Part Two will be the contemporary sounds of Steve Reich, Kevin Volans, and Nico Muhly. OUR MAN ARLEN An exhibit closing Friday celebrates the centennial of the birth of songwriter Harold Arlen, who penned “Over the Rainbow,””It’s Only a Paper Moon,” and “The Man that Got Away.” “Beyond the Rainbow: Music of Harold Arlen,” which follows Arlen’s career from the 1930s to the 1960s, includes audio recordings, photographs, posters, and caricatures.
