HOPPITY AND PALS Lincoln Center screens classic cartoons throughout New Year’s Eve, beginning with “Hoppity Goes to Town” (aka “Mr. Bug Goes to Town”), Max and Dave Fleischer’s landmark 1941 film that was the first animated full-length feature to be based on an all-new story (Saturday, 4:30 p.m.).There are also screenings of “Raggedy Ann and Andy: A Musical Adventure” (1977) (2:30 p.m.) and a compilation of the Fleischer brothers’ musicals (6:30 p.m.). ELECTRIC EVE The experimental music venue Tonic offers several sets on New Year’s Eve. Saxophonist John Zorn kicks things off, performing with his trio Hemophiliac, with Mike Patton and Ikue Mori, and with Electric Masada, the electric version of his ensemble Masada. Performers include percussionist Cyro Baptista and guitarist Marc Ribot (7 p.m., $60). Mr. Ribot and Ceramic Dog perform the first set of 2006 (1 a.m., $20). POETIC PARTY Mark the end of 2005 in rhyme at a bargain reading on the Bowery. Poets and performers Maggie Estep, Sekou Sundiata, Celena Glen, Taylor Mead, and the O’Debra Twins are among those that take the stage at the Big Poetry New Year’s Eve celebration. SONGS AND CELEBRATION Comedian and singer Sandra Bernhard performs a one-woman show to bring in the new year. Saturday, 7:30 p.m., Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette St. at Astor Place, 212-539-8778 for dinner reservations, $150. Note: Seating without dinner reservations is first come, first-served.


GIANT PAIR The dynamic musical duo They Might Be Giants performs its trademark goofball songs. Saturday, 7:30 p.m., Northsix, 66 N. 6th St., between Wythe and Kent avenues, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 718-599-5103, $20.


IMPROV ORCHESTRA The repertory ensemble New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players presents a gala performance. The company’s artistic director, Albert Bergeret, leads the group in scenes from Gilbert & Sullivan shows, songs, and parodies. The highlight comes when audience requests are performed impromptu with a full 25-piece orchestra. Complimentary champagne is served. Saturday, 8 p.m., Symphony Space, 2535 Broadway at 95th Street, 212-864-5400, $55-$75.


MOUSE IN THE HOUSE A Williamsburg lounge-gallery is host to a party boasting dancing, performance, and art. In the front room, a DJ mixes tunes, while video artist Adam Stennett’s latest works – including “Everything Tastes Better When You Are Blind,” in which white mice overwhelm a couple on a first date – play in the main gallery. Saturday, 8 p.m., Supreme Trading, 213 N. 8th St., between Roebling Street and Driggs Avenue, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 718-218-6538, $20.


SMITH’S CELEBRATION Rocker Patti Smith and her band perform a New Year’s Eve show. Her Friday show is sold out. Brothers Past come onstage in the wee hours of 2006. Saturday, 9 p.m. doors open, Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey St. at Bowery, 212-533-2111, $55. Note: 18 and older.


SPRINTING INTO 2006 The Midnight Run in Central Park brings out thousands of runners dressed in costume for dancing, parading, and racing. Motivating participants during the four-mile run in the chill of winter is a spectacular display of fireworks. Saturday, 10 p.m. dancing, 11 p.m. parade, midnight race, Central Park, 72nd Street Transverse, 212-860-4455, $35.
