RECORDING ARTIST
Jeff Schlanger paints jazz musicians as they perform, attempting to capture their improvisational sounds on paper. His kinetic paintings, on display through this weekend, were made at New York City clubs, including the Knitting Factory and the Vision Club. This “music Witness” process mimics the unpredictable liveliness of improvised music: A drummer’s hands are but a blur, a saxophone emits ribbons of color, and a pianist seems to sway at his keyboard.
