TIN TYPES


The literary magazine Tin House sponsors the next installment of the outdoor reading series Park Lit. Authors Susan Choi, Maggie Robins, and Elissa Schappell (who is also the co-founding editor of Tin House) read from their latest work. Tonight, 6:30 p.m., Prospect Park Music Pagoda, enter at at Empire Boulevard and Ocean Avenue, Brooklyn, 212-696-6609, free.


SHORT STUFF


David Sedaris is host at an evening of readings of works by some of the biggest names in short stories: Lorrie Moore, Charles Baxter, Akhil Sharma, and Joyce Carol Oates are among the scheduled participants. Sarah Vowell also will participate in the reading, which celebrates the fund-raising success of the recent collection “Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules,” edited by Mr. Sedaris. Proceeds from the event, like those of the book, go to the in-school tutoring programs of 826NYC. Tuesday, 8 p.m., Cooper Union Great Hall, 7 E. 7th St. at Third Avenue, 212-279-4200, $20.
