MAKING OF A MASTER
The Shakespeare Society presents a discussion between the author of “Will in the World: How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare” (W.W. Norton), Stephen Greenblatt, and the founding director of the Yale Repertory and American Repertory Theatres, Robert Brustein. They’ll discuss the Bard’s work and the context in which he created it. Actors F. Murray Abraham and Joe Plummer will also read scenes from the work of Shakespeare. FINDING MENGELE
The former chief of investigative research at the U.S. Department of Justice, David Marwell , gives a talk on the forensic search for the body of Josef Mengele. Mr. Marwell is the principal author of “In the Matter of Josef Mengele – Justice Department Report” (1992). The lecture, which is illustrated with unpublished photographs and documents, takes place on the 20th anniversary of the discovery of Mengele’s body in Brazil. Mr. Marwell is now the director of the Museum of Jewish Heritage. Wednesday, 7 p.m., Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, near 1st Place, 646-437-4202, donations requested.
WRITERS ON READERS
Panelists in a discussion on “Readers, Writers, and the Real World” include David Denby, Katie Roiphe, Matthew Price, and the author of the new book “A Mirror in the Roadway: Literature in the Real World” (Princeton University Press), Morris Dickstein. The talk, which is followed by a reception and book signing, is the final event in the Writers and Editors series sponsored by the CUNY Graduate Center.
