SPIRITUALISM ONSTAGE In John Chatterton’s play “Beyond the Veil,” set in Victorian England, an agnostic scientist begins to believe in an afterlife after he meets a medium who accurately predicts a personal tragedy. Soon the scientist begins a series of experiments to prove the validity of spiritualism. Mr. Chatterton directs his own play, which is loosely based on the life of Sir William Crookes, who performed extensive experiments with a psychic named Florence Cooke. BURIED TREASURE Sam Shepard ‘s “Buried Child,” which won the 1979 Pulitzer Prize, is produced by the White Horse Theater Company. Set in rural Illinois farm country, it follows a family whose repressed calm is shattered by the arrival of two estranged relatives. Cyndy Marion directs.
