DOMESTIC HISTORY Not enough New Yorkers know about the oldest house in Manhattan, the Morris-Jumel Mansion. And certainly not enough of us have visited the white Colonial in Inwood. Built in 1765 by a British officer, the house atop a grassy hill once commanded views of Lower Manhattan and was used by George Washington during the Battle of Harlem Heights. Today, it looks out on Yankee Stadium and a charming street of recently renovated row houses. Several rooms feature original furniture. The Halloween Ghost Tour details the spooky history of the home (Saturday, October 29). Saturdays in October, noon, Morris-Jumel Mansion, Jumel Terrace, between 160th and 162nd streets, east of St. Nicholas Avenue, 212-923-8008, $5 adults, $3.50 seniors, students, and members, reservations suggested.
