LONDON — Sir Paul McCartney emerged the victor in his acrimonious divorce battle yesterday when a judge awarded his ex-wife only a fraction of the money she had demanded.
Heather Mills had sought nearly $253.8 million for their four-year marriage, but was awarded a fifth of that — $49.3 million.
While Sir Paul, 65, left the High Court with a smile, his former wife launched an 11-minute tirade against the British judicial system in front of scores of journalists and television cameras.
Ms. Mills, 40, who represented herself, said the couple’s daughter, Beatrice, 4, was now “meant to travel B-class while her father travels A-class.”
She alleged that Sir Paul’s legal representative, Fiona Shackleton, had handled the case in the “worst way you could ever, ever imagine.”
