Mayor Bloomberg met with an elite group in Washington yesterday to discuss threats to New York’s position as the world’s leading financial center.
The meeting came as New York is pushing for regulatory changes to better position the city in the world securities market. It was attended by Senator Schumer, the treasury secretary, Henry Paulson Jr., the chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, Ben Bernanke, and the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Christopher Cox.
Messrs. Schumer and Bloomberg have warned that the city’s position as a global financial capital will be in jeopardy if no action is taken. Mr. Bloomberg also met with Reps. Rahm Emanuel and Nita Lowey yesterday while on Capitol Hill.
