British Tourists Struck And Killed in Midtown

The driver of a garbage truck who had neglected to take seizure medication hit and killed two British tourists late Tuesday night in the garment district, police officials said.

Auvyrn Scarlett, 52, lost control of his garbage truck and drove onto the sidewalk on 35th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues at about 10:30 p.m., hitting and killing a man and a woman visiting from England, police said. A third pedestrian was seriously injured in the incident, police said. Police later arrested Mr. Scarlett on charges of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide after it was discovered he deliberately neglected to take prescribed medication for seizures, police said.
