A cleaning crew sent to the home of an 83-year-old woman found a pile of bones, including a skull, lying next to a cane, police said.
The Bronx home was purchased recently by a developer in a foreclosure auction, police said. The woman who used to live there, Florence Bock, apparently went missing about four years ago. Police said they have few details about Bock and her case. The remains were found on Friday, said Sgt. Carlos Nieves of the New York Police Department.
The city medical examiner’s office was working to identify the remains, and the cause of death was listed as undetermined, said spokeswoman Ellen Borakove. Anthropologists will review the bones.
