Federal Funds for JFK Rail Link Pass Committee

The city took another big step toward getting $2 billion in federal funding to help finance a rail link between Lower Manhattan and the John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The funding, which has President Bush’s backing, yesterday passed the House Ways and Means Committee, now headed by the dean of New York’s congressional delegation, Rep. Charles Rangel.
The $2 billion is the last installment in the $20 billion in federal aid that the Bush administration promised New York after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The funding is included with tax incentives as part of an energy tax bill now working its way through Congress.
