Police are searching for a suspect who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl on Tuesday inside an elevator at her TriBeCa apartment building, police officials said.

The suspect, who police described as a well-dressed white male in his 30s, confronted the young girl at about 4:45 p.m. as she walked into the lobby of the apartment building on Warren Street, police said.

After asking the victim questions about the building’s super, the suspect joined the victim in the elevator, police said. The suspect brought her to the basement, and after the young girl refused to get out of the elevator with him, he forced her to touch him inappropriately, police said.
