The New York Public Library has bought a collection of papers from noted historian and political adviser Arthur Schlesinger, the New York Times reported yesterday. The acquisition includes thousands of pages from Schlesinger’s personal journals, travel diaries, and datebooks, as well as correspondence with figures such as Truman Capote and President Clinton, the Times reported.

Before he died of a heart attack in February, Schlesinger made it clear that he wanted his papers to remain at the library posthumously. The papers will be available to the public in a year or two, after they have been processed and catalogued, the Times reported.

Correction: February is when Arthur Schlesinger died. The time of his death was misstated in an earlier version of this story.
