With a verdict in the Sean Bell case imminent, the Reverend Al Sharpton is appearing at City Hall this morning with Nicole Paultre-Bell, the fiancée of Bell. Rev. Sharpton will address the evidence in the trial and show that “police misbehavior in this city will not be tolerated,” according to a press release.
In anticipation of the verdict, Mayor Bloomberg has met with leaders of the black community in Queens to call for leadership after a decision in the case is reach. Three police officers have been charged in the shooting of Bell, an unarmed man who was killed by police gunfire in 2006.
Mr. Bloomberg said yesterday that he doesn’t know what the judge will decide in the case, but said he does know “that the public will understand that we are a country and a city of laws.”
“They will accept the judge’s decision. They certainly have a right to talk to the press. They will not do anything that will put anybody else in danger and we will go on and hopefully have learned something from this,” he said.
