‘City Wants to Ban Some Fatty Foods in Restaurants’
Graffiti has reappeared on subway windows; rats scurry across the tracks; primary education is in dismal shape; noise laws are not enforced; and traffic flow is worse than five years ago.
To escape, I was planning to stay in my apartment and order in for McDonald’s and Krispy Kremes [New York, “City Wants to Ban Some Fatty Foods in Restaurants,” September 27, 2006].
Perhaps Mayor Bloomberg will next proscribe eating more than 2,500 calories a day, less than one hour of exercise a day, and more than one martini a day. Will New York still claim the appellation “Fun City”?

‘The Doctor Is In, But the Lab Coat Is Out’
In regard to “The Doctor Is In, but the Lab Coat Is Out” [New York, October 9, 2006], the coat describes who you are — doctor — name. To me, the sight of the lab coat is consoling, “I am going to be taken care of.”
Fashionable worldly clothing is a sign of self-importance — it has nothing to do with my welfare.
Maybe the doctors and nurses should take a survey of their patients. I think they should be proud to wear their medical garment. They are special people.
