‘Davis’s Golden Years’
Further to Benjamin Ivry’s interview with Colin Davis [Arts & Letters, ” Davis’s Golden Years,” October 16, 2007] on the subject of aging, I recall reading that another octogenarian conductor, Charles Mackerras, always qualified his contracts for accepting future engagements by penning in to them the words “if alive”!
