Luminous Creatures
The American Museum of Natural History’s Winter Dance on Tuesday felt like several fashion runway shows collapsed into one of those cavernous dance clubs in West Chelsea — except the models were law students, a whale loomed above, and by the end of the night, $260,000 had been raised for the museum.
Cynthia Rowley wore a dress covered in gold safety pins, shown last week at her fall 2007 show. The design may need some tweaking. “It’s cold on the skin, and if the clips open, it’s going to hurt,” she said.
The party’s chairwomen wore dresses from Rachel Roy’s resort and spring collections; Kim Hicks wore her own design; many wore vintage, and Jill Kargman borrowed a dress from mom.
As for the men, the standout in the sea of black was Andy Boose in a Hugo Boss blue velvet tuxedo and Gucci fur boots formerly owned by David Furnish. He may have been the only guest properly outfitted for the snow falling at the end of the party.
