GRIZZLIES’ COACH BROWN RETIRES
Hubie Brown retired as coach of the Grizzlies yesterday due to health reasons.
“Unexpected health-related issues will not allow me to continue coaching the Memphis Grizzlies,” the 71-year-old Brown said in a statement. “This situation was unforeseen and absolutely nonexistent at the beginning of the season.”
Assistant coach Lionel Hollins was named interim coach, Grizzlies president Jerry West said. Brown was the oldest coach in the NBA when he returned to the league with the Grizzlies in 2002 after a 16-year break. He was head coach of the Atlanta Hawks and Knicks in the late 1970s and 1980s. After being fired by the Knicks, Brown became a TV basketball analyst.

UCONN ON BRINK OF FIRST BOWL BERTH
Dan Orlovsky threw three touchdowns and Connecticut (7-4, 3-3 Big East) strengthened its postseason bowl credentials with a wild 41-35 victory over Rutgers (4-7, 1-5) yesterday.
Connecticut now finds itself in good position to go to a bowl in only its third season with a full complement of scholarship players. The Big East is in the BCS mix and it has agreements with the Gator Bowl, the Continental Tire Bowl, and the Insight Bowl.
