OVECHKIN AGREES TO $124M, 13-YEAR DEAL WITH CAPITALS
Alex Ovechkin agreed to a $124 million, 13-year contract extension yesterday with the Washington Capitals, working out the details himself in negotiations with owner Ted Leonsis and general manager George McPhee.
The 22-year-old Russian star was in the final season of a three-year, entry-level deal. His salary cap number for this season, taking into account bonuses, is $3.83 million.

BASEBALL, NFL EACH GIVE $3M TO USOC STEROID RESEARCH
Baseball commissioner Bud Selig was looking for a way to show he’s really trying to fight steroids. The U.S. Olympic Committee served up a perfect opportunity for Selig to do something more than just talk. Major League Baseball and the NFL agreed yesterday to join an anti-doping research collaborative spearheaded by the USOC. Each will contribute $3 million to create the most extensive drug-fighting partnership to date between the United States’ biggest pro leagues and its Olympic federation.

BRIAN MCNAMEE MEETS WITH FEDERAL PROSECUTORS
Roger Clemens’s accuser met for about three hours yesterday with federal prosecutors investigating performance-enhancing drugs in sports. Brian McNamee, the pitcher’s former trainer, talked with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Parrella and IRS Special Agent Jeff Novitzky about the events that led up to his phone call last week with the seven-time Cy Young Award winner, a person familiar with the session said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to disclose details.
