Modern masculinity took an elegant step forward last week with the opening of the Tom Ford store at 845 Madison Ave. Mr. Ford, who spent 10 years as creative director of Gucci, has developed a new brand of fragrance and menswear based largely on his own rougish, intense image.

The menswear line is sold exclusively at the Tom Ford store, designed with an exterior which is meant to make men feel luxuriously at home. The offerings include ready-to-wear, custom tailoring, leather goods, and accessories. Though the shop will be open to the public, specific hours will be dedicated to appointment-only fittings.
