Parading in front of a wall of ice as a sound track of whipping winds played, Y-3’s creative director Yohji Yamamoto, working in collaboration with the athletic brand Adidas, sent women down the runway in orange and red plaid ensembles with giant scarves to match. Male models wore nylon coats in eye-popping colors, such as tomato red and sky blue. Standout menswear looks included multi-pocket, military-style coats with peaked or notched lapels, and a charming rose-printed greatcoat. But at the core of the collection for both sexes were dark, shiny parkas, vests, and field coats cut from nylon and Gore-Tex. Next to those futuristic looks, Y-3’s gray jeans for men and black wool skirts for women looked almost retro.
