Bacon, Basquiat Lead Sotheby’s London Auction

Francis Bacon’s “Study for Head of George Dyer” (1967) was the top seller at Sotheby’s strong Contemporary Art Evening Auction Tuesday, selling for $27.4 million.

Another highlight was Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Untitled (Pecho/Oreja),” created in 1982-83, which sold for $10.1 million. The painting had been estimated at around $10 million, and came from the collection of rock band U2.

In total, the sale generated $188.9 million for the auction house.
