TORONTO – In language reminiscent of NTP Incorporated, Visto Corporation said it is seeking to halt sales of BlackBerry devices in America due to Research In Motion’s alleged infringement of Visto’s patents.
Visto said earlier yesterday that it has sued RIM, maker of the BlackBerry, for patent infringement. The suit was announced almost two months after RIM settled its high-stakes dispute with NTP, agreeing to pay the Virginia patent concern $612.5 million to end the hostilities. Had RIM opted to pursue that case, it could have faced a court-ordered injunction that would have banned BlackBerry in America.
Visto said the intellectual property at issue in its dispute with RIM has no resemblance to NTP’s patents.
