Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world’s largest retailer, will revamp its logo in the coming months for the first time in 16 years as part of an effort to transform its image amid criticism over employment policies. The new logo will be introduced in the fall, according to the company’s Web site yesterday. The “Walmart” is in blue, without a star between the “Wal” and “Mart” and is followed by a yellow, six-point asterisk that resembles the sun. It will replace the darker blue logo. Wal-Mart, which faces more than 70 wage-and-hour lawsuits, is trying to improve the chain’s image by promoting staff diversity and environmentally friendly policies. The logo will change for the fifth time in the company’s 46-year history.
