PILGRIM’S PROGRESS In the summer of 1999, Father Jerome Tupa made an artistic and spiritual pilgrimage to Rome from Milan. During his travels, he kept a journal and made hundreds of drawings, which inspired him to paint the bright oil and watercolor paintings that are now on display in the exhibit “The Road to Rome: A Modern Pilgrimage.” Through August, Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., National Museum of Catholic Art and History, 443 E. 115th St., between First and Pleasant avenues, 212-828-5209, $5 suggested donation.
TIN TYPES Oi Sawa’s oil paintings on tin are on display through this weekend in “The Beginning of the Century.” The silvery geometric paintings were inspired by reflections on a stovepipe in the artist’s studio more than 10 years ago. She incorporated images of space and the universe as well as influences from cubism into the finished paintings. The gallery is also showing oil paintings by Tazuko Fujii. Through Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Viridian Artists, 530 W. 25th St., between Tenth and Eleventh avenues, no. 407, 212-414-4040, free.
