THE HUNGER FOR MORE The Chelsea Art Museum presents “The Food Show: The Hungry Eye,” a group exhibit of works that ventures beyond the representation of food as still life to explore the human preoccupation with food with irony and humor. Featured artists include Jonathan Seliger, Priscilla Monge, Will Cotton, and Janet Fish. Robert Edelman and Gina Fiore are curators of the show. A panel discussion, moderated by a book and restaurant critic, William Grimes, is on Friday. MODERN ART “Optical Perception” is an exhibit featuring paintings, collages, sculpture, and illustrations by four contemporary artists, Patricia Chaplin, Ray Gibbon, Don Rodriguez, and Gilbert Hsiao. The artists are on hand for a weekend panel discussion with curators Meridith McNeal and Danny Simmons. NEW AMSTERDAM “Peter Stuyvesant’s Ghost” is a civic art project featuring six events and a daylong symposium Saturday that explores the environmental and cultural changes that took place during the Dutch colonial period in New York. Events include a telephone tour of the original area of land that Dutch colonists settled on, and various walking tours. Through Sunday, times and locations vary.
