PIANO MAN Summer Stars Concert Series, the classical-music wing of the River to River Festival, opens with a performance by the gold medalist at the 2003 Shanghai Piano Competition, Adam Golka. NAUMBURG AT NIGHT Carlos Miguel Prieto conducts the second installment of the Naumburg Orchestral Concert Series, an event celebrating 100 years of free outdoor music in Central Park. Soprano Susanna Phillips is the soloist, with music by several American composers. WORLD BEAT Balkan Beat Box, a band of New Yorkers, Israelis, Africans, and Bulgarians led by Ori Kaplan and Tamir Muskat, plays one night only two months before the release of its debut album.The group combines folk, electronic beats, and video projections for a performance-meetsdance-party feel.
