Heineken Premium Light, a new brew specially designed for the American drinker, is the first new product Heineken has offered in its 130-year history. The beer currently is available only at bars and restaurants, but starting next month, it also will be available in supermarkets and your local corner deli. HPL starts out smooth, with a denser liquid feel than Bud or Coors Light. It doesn’t have the bitter push that regular Heineken has, and there’s a slight sweetness at the end of a sip, which is a welcome surprise. Plus, with the signature green bottle still intact, it’ll be a fitting accessory for St. Patrick’s Day swilling.
