MORE THAN DESSERT Will Goldfarb’s SoHo dessert spot Room 4 Dessert is closed for the moment, but he is moving forward with plans to open a sandwich kiosk in Battery Park around Labor Day. The new spot, probably to be called Picnic, will feature sandwiches and salads for between $5 and $12. Juice, beer, and wine will be available, too.
NO MORE NISH Nish, a more casual, recently opened incarnation of the long-standing fine dining restaurant March (405 E. 58th St., between First Avenue and Sutton Place) has closed and the phone number has been disconnected. The chef and owner, Wayne Nish, also was the consulting chef for Varietal, which recently closed its dining room.
PARK MOVE Park Bistro, which has long been at 414 Park Avenue South, is moving across the street and two blocks south to 377 Park Avenue ( between 26th and 27th streets, 212-689-1360). The restaurant is currently closed, but its owners hope to reopen it at the new location in two to three weeks.
MORE THAN DESSERT, PART 2 P*ong (150 W. 10th St., between Greenwich Avenue and Waverly Place, 212-929-0898) pastry chef Pichet Ong’s West Village café, has added an optional three courses to its $59 10-course menu for an additional $20. The three new courses will include either foie gras or caviar (such as foie gras brûlée with pistachio, cherries, and biscotti), a cheese course (perhaps Meyer lemon ice cream with salt and pepper and Vermont mascarpone), and a dessert (for example, Kaffir lime meringue, rhubarb shaved ice, basil seed and coconut agar). An additional $45 will get you six glasses of wine paired with the meal.
FROM THE GREENMARKET Tocqueville (1 E. 15th St., between Union Square West and Fifth Avenue, 212-647-1515) has extended its lunchtime Greenmarket menu to dinner. The $48, three-course, meal will change weekly, or more often if greenmarket produce dictates it, and will be available through September 8. It will not, however, be available on Sunday, as the restaurant will be closed on that day for the rest of the summer.
SALSA FOR SPORTS Yet another Chipotle opens today. This one will likely serve many Columbia students, as it is just a few blocks from campus at 2843 Broadway (between Cathedral Parkway and 111th Street, 212-222-1712). Stop by today with $5 and you will get a burrito and drink, with all the proceeds going to support Columbia University’s 29 intercollegiate sports teams’ activities.
