BAGHDAD (AP) – A suicide car bomber rammed into a fuel truck Thursday in central Baghdad, killing at least 11 people, police said.
Some 28 others were wounded by the blast, which happened around 1:15 p.m. in the mostly Shiite Muslim Karradah district, police said. The death toll was expected to rise, they said.
Two Iraqi soldiers were among the dead, police said.
The attack comes one day after four attacks killed 183 people on the bloodiest day since the American troop increase began nine weeks ago.
Many of the more than 230 Iraqis killed or found dead nationwide Wednesday were buried in quiet ceremonies before Thursday’s noon prayer, according to Muslim tradition. Other bodies lay in refrigeration containers, still unidentified, at morgues across Baghdad.
