Some people find that their most vivid images of Christmas come not from their own celebrations but from the classic movies they associate with the holiday: “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” or “White Christmas.” And for many, watching these movies again each holiday season is as much a tradition as decorating the tree and unwrapping the presents.
To celebrate the tradition of the holiday movie, Posteritati Movie Posters, a vintage film poster gallery in SoHo, is presenting “Hollywood Holidays,” an exhibit of posters from holiday films, from November 22 to January 2.
The exhibit includes 48 posters, such as a 1947 poster for “Miracle on 34th Street” ($1,200), a 1992 French poster for “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” translated as “L’Etrange Noel de Monsieur Jack” ($200), and a 1954 “White Christmas” ($1,500).
The holiday collection, along with the rest of Posteritati’s inventory of more than 12,000 vintage movie posters from 38 countries, can be viewed at Posteritati’s Web site, www.posteritati.com.
