Melinda Gates Throws Ex Bill Gates Under the Epstein Bus: ‘Happy To Be Away From All the Muck’

Melinda Gates says she has largely moved on from the “muck” of her past marriage, but new allegations involving her ex-husband Bill Gates and the late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein have opened old wounds.In an interview set to be released Thursday, the philanthropist reacted to explosive claims surfacing from newly released Justice Department documents, including draft emails in which Epstein alleged the Microsoft co-founder sought advice on concealing a sexually transmitted disease he contracted from “Russian girls” from his wife by surreptitiously giving her antibiotics.Speaking on NPR’s “Wild Card” podcast, Ms. Gates addressed the headlines directly, distancing herself from the scandal while expressing empathy for Epstein’s victims.“I have moved on from that,” she told host Rachel Martin. “I am so happy to be away from all the muck that was there.”When pressed on the new revelations, Ms. Gates, 61, admitted they were difficult to process. “So for me, it’s personally hard whenever those details come up, right, because [it] brings back memories of some very, very painful times in my marriage,” she said.However, she firmly placed the burden of explanation on her ex-husband. “Whatever questions remain there of what I don’t — can’t even begin to know all of it — those questions are for those people and for even my ex-husband. They need to answer to those things, not me.”The documents released last week include draft emails Epstein seemingly addressed to himself or intended for Mr. Gates’ former advisor, Boris Nikolic. One draft from July 2013 contains a shocking accusation: “To add insult to the injury you then subsequently with tears in your eyes, implore me to please delete the emails regarding your std, your request that I provide you antibiotics that you can surreptitiously give to Melinda, and the description of your penis.”A spokesperson for Mr. Gates, 70, has vehemently denied the allegations found in the files.“The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame,” the spokesman said in a statement, calling the claims “absolutely absurd and completely false.”Mr. Gates has previously admitted that spending time with Epstein was a “mistake” made in the pursuit of charitable funding, though he has never been accused of a crime in connection to Epstein.In her podcast appearance, Ms. Gates also expressed sympathy for Epstein’s victims. “I think we’re having a reckoning as a society, right? No girl, no girl should ever be put in the situation that they were put in by Epstein and whatever was going on with all of the various people around him,” she said.“It’s beyond heartbreaking, right? I remember being those ages those girls were, I remember my daughters being those ages,” Ms. Gates said. “We see them standing up in front of microphones in D.C. What they went through is just unimaginable.”
