MINNEAPOLIS — At least three people were killed and an unknown number of others injured yesterday when a four-lane bridge over the Mississippi River collapsed, sending cars, concrete, and twisted metal into the river.
The four-lane Interstate 35W bridge, which spanned the river between Minneapolis and St. Paul, collapsed about 6:05 p.m., during evening rush hour. Kristi Rollwagen, a spokeswoman for the city’s Department of Emergency Preparedness, said at least three people died in the tragedy.
It wasn’t immediately clear how many people or vehicles were involved in the collapse, but witnesses said at least 20 vehicles were involved.
