* At a rally yesterday in Philadelphia, Senator Kerry cited the Iraq war and a huge cache of missing explosives as proof President Bush has “failed the test of being commander in chief.” Mr. Kerry was joined by President Clinton just seven weeks after Mr. Clinton’s heart bypass surgery. Mr. Kerry also visited New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
* In Greeley, Colo., Mr. Bush yesterday accused his Democratic challenger of “the worst kind of Monday-morning quarterbacking” on the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Mr. Bush slammed Mr. Kerry as being “consistently and dangerously wrong” on national security matters. Mr. Bush moved on to campaign in Iowa and Wisconsin.
WHERE THEY ARE TODAY
* Mr. Kerry will be in Green Bay, Wis., Las Vegas, Nev., and Albuquerque, N.M. with an overnight in Sioux City, Iowa.
* Mr. Bush will visit Onalaska, Richland Center, and Cuba City in Wisconsin and then Dubuque, Iowa.
POLLS
* An ABC/Washington Post poll had Mr. Kerry ahead of Mr. Bush 49% to 48%, while a Gallup poll showed Mr. Bush at 51% and Mr. Kerry at 46%. A Rasmussen poll indicated Mr. Kerry ahead of Mr. Bush 48% to 46%.
