As the election season heats up, the surprisingly soft August jobs report will lend a little political advantage to Donald Trump. In general, jobs came in between 30,000 and 40,000 below expectations. Goods producing and manufacturing jobs decreased, wages were near flat and retreated to 2.4% year-on-year, the private and manufacturing workweeks fell, and overall hours dropped.
