BUFFALO — Border agents found 22 pounds of marijuana concealed in the spare tire of a car yesterday and arrested the Canadian driver, a American Customs and Border Protection spokesman said.

Amanda Copeland, 27, was charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and turned over to Buffalo police.

The North York, Ontario, resident had claimed to be on her way to visit family in upstate New York when she entered the United States at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo. The drugs, packed in 39 vacuum-sealed bags, were found during a secondary inspection by agents using a portable detection device.

The marijuana had a street value of about $65,000, CBP spokesman Kevin Corsaro said.
