A record 110 million passengers traveled through John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, La Guardia Airport, and Stewart International Airport in 2007, an increase of more than 5% from 2006, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airports, announced yesterday.
More than 47.7 million passengers traveled through JFK in 2007, an increase of about 12% from 2006. Nearly 36.4 million traveled through Newark, an increase of more than 2%, and about 25 million passengers traveled through La Guardia last year, a decrease of about 3% from 2006.
To accommodate expected passenger growth in the future, the Port Authority’s board of commissioners will today consider funding a study of taxiway and runway access projects to cut down on delays caused by traffic congestion at JFK.
The Port Authority’s Flight Delay Task Force has recommended creating a runway access program.
