Former City School Bus Supervisor Arrested

Federal agents have arrested and charged a former borough supervisor with the New York City Department of Education school bus inspection unit on charges he received as much as $6,000 in cash bribes from owners of school bus companies in return for favorable treatment and inspections.
The arrest of Geoffrey Berger, who worked at the department for 30 years, is the latest in an investigation by the Department of Labor and the Federal Bureau of Investigations into industry-wide corruption at the union that represents several of the school bus companies in the city, Local 1181 of the Amalgamated Transit Union.
Mr. Berger faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
