Q. Is this your first time visiting “The Gates”?
A. Yes. Actually, I don’t know anything about them. I don’t get it. What are they supposed to represent?
What was your initial reaction when you entered the park?
I think they spoil the park. I would have rather seen the park without them, like how it looks in the movies, instead of all camouflaged. I can understand why people that live here might like it. It’s a change. But they really ruin it for tourists.
Do you think the $21 million for “The Gates” is worth the cost?
I think that is a bit much. It is nice that it creates a sense of community and gets people talking. But still, that is a lot.
What else do you plan to do in New York City?
We leave this morning. But we have done all the typical tourist stuff. We saw the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building.
Compared to other sights you have seen, has Central Park been a letdown?
No, not a total letdown. There are some areas over at the far end where there is less orange. I would like to come back in the summer. The park will have a whole different atmosphere then.
